Are You Part of the Mob?

Posted on August 5, 2009

Where Republicans see concerned citizens worried about the fiscal future of America, the Democrats see only a mob of angry right-wing extremists, doing their best to undermine the Saint Barack Obama.

Incredibly, that is the message being put forward today by the Democratic National Committee in a paid advertisement.

The narrator of this curious ad says darkly: “They lost the election. They lost on the recovery act, the budget and children's health care. They've lost the confidence of the American people after eight years of failed policies that ruined our economy and cost millions of jobs. Now, desperate Republicans and their well funded allies are organizing angry mobs – just like they did during the election. Their goal? Destroy President Obama.”

            Wow, that is something.

Calling more than half the country an angry mob has to be one of the dumbest political strategies of all time.

And according to the latest polls, more than half the country is concerned about the costs of the President’s health care bill.

Democrats don’t want to face the music.  Every time they go home to see their constituents, they hear the same message.  Don’t put more debt on my kid’s back.  Don’t raise my taxes.  Don’t put my health insurance at risk.  Don’t make me go to the government to get my health care.

But Democratic leaders don’t want to hear that message.  And they don’t want their colleagues to hear that message.  So instead of cutting a bipartisan deal with the Republicans, who want a more sensible, less costly plan, they call their constituents an angry mob.

Reminds me of Bob Dole, when he was running against Bill Clinton in 1996. He grew so frustrated with the fact that he was getting beat in the polls that he said, “I wonder sometimes what people are thinking about, or if they are thinking at all."

The voters told Bob Dole what they were thinking in the election, and they were thinking that they didn’t want him to be President.

Well, the American people are getting ready to tell the Obama Administration what they are thinking, no matter what the Democrats think of that angry mob, previously known as the American people.  They are thinking that they don’t want this bad deal on health care.

Where do I get the tee-shirt?  I am an American and I am part of the angry mob that wants the government to keep its hands off of my health care.
