Harry Reid Tried to Rig the 2008 Democratic Presidential Primary in Obama’s Favor

For people who do not know me; I am an Independent political consultant and analyst whose top goals are to be honest, to always tell people the truth as I see it and as how I can credibly document it even if it is not popular, and to maintain my reputation of credibility by never saying anything about anyone or any issue unless I can tangibly prove that my claim or claims are true.  I am always willing to discuss or debate anything that I say or that I put in writing.  Further, I am NOT a Republican plant attempting to sabotage Harry Reid.  I have civilly debated John on this blog defending ObamaCare (John is a very nice person and we are friends) and I have criticized extremism in both parties, especially the Tea Party which I think is responsible for much of the partisan gridlock in Congress (see my Facebook page or look me up in Google).  While I certainly have my own opinions on issues, I always objectively make my political calls just like how a truly honest baseball umpire would which is calling balls and strikes right down the middle how I really see them regardless of which team or player is at bat even if I may personally not like the call.  I know reality when I see it and I want people to be aware of it in what I think is an overall partisan media on much of the cable networks on BOTH sides!

The purpose of this post is my formally accusing Sen. Harry Reid of trying to rig the 2008 Democratic Presidential primary in Obama’s favor in a behind the scenes conspiracy, playing the race card while doing it, lying to the public by claiming to be “neutral,” and several other acts of not telling people the truth.  It is my main hope that this post will help to insure that Presidential primaries will never rigged again!  This post will be in outline form and credible documentation will be below in the comments section to back up every claim that I am making to expose the many political sins of Harry Reid:

1) It is a tangibly proven historical fact that Harry Reid tried to rig the 2008 Democratic primary in Obama’s favor while playing the race card and publicly lying about it by claiming to be “neutral.”  The best source to document this is the book “Game Change” by journalists Mark Halperin and John Heilemann starting on page 33 in the first hardcover edition.  Also, these quotes along with much more credible documentation are below in the comments section:

A) “Mr. Reid’s remarks were contained in “Game Change,” a newly published account of the 2008 presidential race by political journalists John Heilemann and Mark Halperin. The book reported that Mr. Reid privately urged Mr. Obama, then a freshman senator, to seek the presidency in the fall of 2006 despite his limited experience and the historical obstacles to making such a run…”

B) “Beyond the impolitic expression, Reid’s comments provide deeper revelations about the extent to which the majority leader backed Obama over the other candidates in the 2008 race — despite his professed neutrality.

In last year’s epilogue to his own book, “The Good Fight,” Reid disclosed that he called then-Sen. Barack Obama into his office off the Senate floor in early 2007 and encouraged him to run for president…”

C) “Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid apologized Saturday following reports he had privately described then-candidate Barack Obama during the presidential campaign as a black candidate who could be successful thanks in part to his “light-skinned” appearance and speaking patterns “with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one…”

Please believe me when I say that this is just the tip of the iceberg of documentation to tangibly prove my very serious claim that Harry Reid secretly tried to rig the 2008 Democratic Presidential primary about like how WWE wrestling matches look real to audiences while they are really rigged from behind the scenes!

2) Harry Reid put a buried NRA friendly clause in ObamaCare for political purposes, he was praised by Wayne LaPierre, and he refused to go on CNN to talk about it:

A) “Now as we reported last week the National Rifle Association somehow managed to push this stealth legislation into President Obama’s health care reform bill. The question is how and why…

ACOSTA: LaPierre’s visit was a big boost for Reid, who was courting gun owners in his very pro-Second Amendment state of Nevada, in a tough battle for re-election.

WAYNE LAPIERRE, NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION: I also want to thank you, Senator, for your support every day at the federal level for the Second Amendment, and for the rights of American gun owners.

ACOSTA: Both Reid and the NRA declined to talk to CNN on camera…”

3) Harry Reid broke several promises on filibuster reform which Rachel Maddow exposed:

A) “Rachel Maddow reviews the litany of statements by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid about reforming the filibuster rule in the Senate to prevent obstructionist Republicans from forcing a 60-vote majority on every bill, and points out the utter lack of any meaningful, substantive reform in the package that finally passed.”

4) Harry Reid helped cause Obama to break his promise to close Guantanamo:

A) “Even Harry Reid, you know, who is the Senate majority leader, who’s a Democrat, voted against funding for the president right out of the gate in 2009 to move people back from Guantanamo to hold them in U.S. prisons. Just said no…”

5) Harry Reid was inconsistent and looked like he had something to hide on the Sen. Robert Menendez ethics issue:

A) Reid said on Tuesday, 1/29/13 about the Sen. Robert Menendez ethics issue: “I don’t know anything about it” while CNN reported on Thursday, 1/31/13: ”CNN has learned, though, that Senator Reid was aware of those reimbursements when he made that statement to reporters on Tuesday.”

6) For Democrats, Rush Limbaugh very cleverly outsmarted Harry Reid, made him look like an idiot, and claimed a political victory over him (which Rush definitely got in my opinion):

A) Reid properly condemned Rush Limbaugh for his “Phony Soldiers” comment in 2007 and he wrote a letter (signed by over 40 Senators) to Mark Mays of Clear Channel about it.  Rush put that original letter on eBay for auction promising to match the winning bid and giving all of the money to charity.  The letter sold for just over $2.1 Million which Rush matched and it all went to charity.  Reid then went on to stupidly drop the “Phony Soldiers” issue and praise Rush on the Senate floor for what he did while Rush claimed a true victory over Reid:

http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/daily/2007/10/19/senator_reid_you_win_rush

Senator Reid: You Win, Rush

October 19, 2007

With 40+ sitting Senators who signed that letter, Reid could have easily raised three, four, or more times the money than Rush did giving it all to charity, give Rush a very short “that was nice of you to do,” and then say “now lets get back to the business of your calling our troops “Phony Soldiers” (it does not take a genius or a rocket scientist to see that):

HARRY REID: “This week, Rush Limbaugh put the original copy of that letter up for auction on eBay. Mr. President, we didn’t have time or we could have gotten every Democratic Senator to sign that letter. But he put the letter up for auction on eBay. And I think very, very constructively, let the proceeds of that to go to the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation. What is the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation? It provides scholarship assistance to children of Marines and federal law enforcement personnel whose parent dies in the line of duty, as well as health care assistance for disabled children of fallen troops. What could be a more worthwhile cause? And I think it’s really good that this money on eBay is going to be raised for this purpose… I think that he and I thought this would probably not raise much money, a letter by Democratic Senators complaining about something. This morning, the bid is more than two million on this. We’ve watched it during the week. It keeps going up, and up, and up, and there’s only a little bit of time left on it. But it’s certainly going to be more than two million. Never did we think that this letter would bring money of this nature…”

This is what you get when you combine the dishonesty and stupidity of Harry Reid: A rigged Presidential primary, many broken promises (a person who I do NOT believe that you can trust), and Rush Limbaugh manipulating him to turn a rebuke for calling our troops “Phony Soldiers” to praising him on the Senate floor when 40+ sitting Senators could have easily raised much more money than Rush did so Reid could have continued on with his rebuke of Rush.  I fully stand behind this post because every claim that I made in it is credibly documented as being true and I am willing to debate it in writing if anyone thinks that my claims are false and wants to challenge me (I take full responsibility for anything that I say or write).  It is my very sincere hope that no Presidential primary in either party will ever be rigged again in the future and that this post will help to make some kind of a positive difference!

I would like for Democrats who supported Hillary Clinton in 2008 to ask themselves what they think about Harry Reid right now knowing that he intentionally lied to you while were giving your hard earned money and your valuable time to a cause (the Clinton campaign) that more than likely could not win mainly because Harry Reid was secretly trying to rig that primary?  In closing, I would ask everybody if you think that Harry Reid can be trusted after reading this post and the tangible documentation below to back up every claim?

  1. Here is tangible documentation to credibly prove my point 1 above that Harry Reid intentionally lied when he publicly claimed to be neutral during the 2008 Democratic primary while he was running a behind the scenes conspiracy to try and rig the primary in Obama’s favor again Hillary. Reid also played the race card while doing this. Reid tried to turn a serious primary into little more than a rigged WWE wrestling event where the public sees one thing in the ring while it is really rigged from behind the scenes (this is all in addition to the book “Game Change” by journalists Mark Halperin and John Heilemann starting on page 33 in the first hardcover edition which credibly documents even more tangible proof of these claims):

    1) Harry Reid lied about who he was for in the 2008 Democratic primary race when The New York Times on May 29, 2008 reported that he “remained publicly neutral in the contest:”

    Democratic Leaders Lean on Superdelegates

    By CARL HULSE

WASHINGTON – “Hoping to bring the Democratic presidential nomination fight to an end, party leaders are intensifying their efforts to encourage remaining uncommitted superdelegates to make their choice public by the middle of next week…

Both Ms. Pelosi and Mr. Reid have remained publicly neutral in the contest and have said that the primaries should run their course. But with the last contests set for Tuesday, the two top lawmakers are evidently ready to exercise their influence with the approximately 200 members of Congress and the party elite who have yet to make their preference known publicly. Party officials say both Mr. Reid and Ms. Pelosi are also calling uncommitted superdelegates to press them for a resolution…”

    2) Chris Cillizza of The Washington Post mentioned how that Harry Reid “was officially neutral in the primary” and then admitted in 2007 that “he privately encouraged Obama to run” (Chris Cillizza is a frequent guest on many liberal MSNBC shows so nobody can accuse him of conservative bias against Reid):

In new epilogue, Reid recounts encouraging Obama to run

Washington — “Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid encouraged Barack Obama to run for president in early 2007, telling the then-freshman senator if wanted the White House, he could win it, according to an epilogue to Reid’s autobiography to be released next month.

Reid’s advice came unsolicited, the majority leader told the Las Vegas Sun in an interview…”

    4) The Las Vegas Sun summarized what Harry Reid did very well by mentioning in the same article Reid’s “professed neutrality,” how Reid offered to make Obama president when he said “If you want to be president, you can be president now,” and how that this was a “game changer at the time” (helping Obama beat Hillary in the primary):

In last year’s epilogue to his own book, “The Good Fight,” Reid disclosed that he called then-Sen. Barack Obama into his office off the Senate floor in early 2007 and encouraged him to run for president.

“If you want to be president, you can be president now,” Reid recalled telling Obama in the book.

Reid’s comments last April were a game changer at the time, revealing a closer relationship between the often-inscrutable majority leader and the popular new president than Washington had realized…”

    5) This credibly and tangibly proves that the book “Game Change” by John Heilemann and Mark Halperin is factually correct about its claim that “Mr. Reid privately urged Mr. Obama, then a freshman senator, to seek the presidency in the fall of 2006 despite his limited experience” and “that Reid was pushing Obama in the summer of 2006 to consider running for president:”

‘Game Change’ disputes Reid’s Obama timeline

By MANU RAJU | 1/10/10 12:09 PM EST

“A new book disputes Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s account of his attempts to persuade Barack Obama to run for president — saying they started a year earlier and played out differently than Reid has previously suggested.

“Game Change,” co-authored by journalists Mark Halperin and John Heilemann, reveals that Reid was pushing Obama in the summer of 2006 to consider running for president, suggesting that Reid was concerned early on that Hillary Clinton would lose the White House and undercutting the majority leader’s public stance that he was neutral in the race…”

    6) Harry Reid did play the race card when he made his decision to pick Obama to run for President:

Reid apologizes for ‘Negro dialect’ comment

    Posted: January 9th, 2010 04:45 PM ET

From CNN Senior Political Editor Mark Preston

Washington (CNN) – “Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid apologized Saturday following reports he had privately described then-candidate Barack Obama during the presidential campaign as a black candidate who could be successful thanks in part to his “light-skinned” appearance and speaking patterns “with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one.”

Journalists Mark Halperin and John Heilemann reported the remarks in their new book “Game Change,” which was purchased by CNN Saturday at a Washington-area bookstore. The book is slated for official release next Tuesday.

“He (Reid) was wowed by Obama’s oratorical gifts and believed that the country was ready to embrace a black presidential candidate, especially one such as Obama – a ‘light-skinned’ African American ‘with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one,’ as he said privately. Reid was convinced, in fact, that Obama’s race would help him more than hurt him in a bid for the Democratic nomination,” they write…”

  2. Here is tangible documentation to credibly prove my point 2 above that Harry Reid intentionally put a secret NRA friendly clause into ObamaCare, he was praised by Wayne LaPierre, he and refused to go on CNN to talk about it. This was exposed on CNN by Anderson Cooper (here are the CNN video to document this which starts at 2 minutes into it and the relevant CNN transcript of the video):

Gun Language Infects Health Care Bill; Battle over Gun Control; Too Big to Fail But Not to Sue?

    Aired January 8, 2013 – 20:00 ET

ANDERSON COOPER, CNN ANCHOR: “Already on the books. A law you probably don’t know about, hidden in a very surprising place. We think you need to know about this law because critics say it damages our ability to truly know, using serious science, the impact that guns have on public health and public safety, impeding research on gun safety, and preventing doctors from talking to patients about the potential health risks that come with gun ownership. Advocates who support the law say it protects the rights of gun owners.
Now as we reported last week the National Rifle Association somehow managed to push this stealth legislation into President Obama’s health care reform bill. The question is how and why. And why, whatever you think of a law, one of the president’s top allies — that’s right, the president’s ally — helped the NRA get it passed. No surprise that there’s a big dose of politics involved here.

Jim Acosta tonight is “Keeping Them Honest.”

    (BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

JIM ACOSTA, CNN NATIONAL POLITICAL CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): When President Obama signed National Health Care Reform into law, few in Washington knew that buried in the legislation’s more than 900 pages was a gift to the nation’s powerful gun lobby. But here it is. A provision entitled “Protection of Second Amendment Rights.” It states the government and health insurers cannot collect any information relating to the lawful ownership or possession of a firearm or ammunition.

The provision was such a secret, “The Washington Post” reports, that some people in the White House didn’t even know it existed, despite being in the president’s signature legislation.

Health care advocate Joan Alker did notice it and has a hunch where it came from.

(On camera): And so how do you think this got in there?

JOAN ALKER, GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY CENTER FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES: I don’t know. I’m assuming the NRA put it in at the last minute.

ACOSTA (voice-over): So who put it in there? It might surprise you to learn it was this man, the most powerful Democrat in Congress, Senate majority leader, Harry Reid. But why? A Democratic source close to the passage of the health care law tells CNN, “This is what was viewed as a relatively benign way to make sure the National Rifle Association didn’t get involved with this.”

Reid has been a top advocate of gun rights for years. In fact, just days after the health care law was signed, Reid invited Wayne LaPierre, a top official at the NRA, to the opening of this Nevada weapons range.

SEN. HARRY REID (D), MAJORITY LEADER: People who criticize this probably would criticize baseball.

  3. Here is tangible documentation to credibly prove my point 3 above that Harry Reid broke several promises on filibuster reform which Rachel Maddow exposed:

    http://video.msnbc.msn.com/the-rachel-maddow-show/50582128 (7:43)

Meager filibuster reform bodes poorly for Senate productivity
Jan. 24: Rachel Maddow reviews the litany of statements by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid about reforming the filibuster rule in the Senate to prevent obstructionist Republicans from forcing a 60-vote majority on every bill, and points out the utter lack of any meaningful, substantive reform in the package that finally passed.

Also, at 4:33 into this Ed Show video, Richard Wolffe of MSNBC told Ed Schultz that Harry Reid will NOT agree to filibuster reform because he is “a creature of the establishment” who wants to maintain his position if in the minority (politics):

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/45755822/vp/50359159#50359159 (06:53)

Boehner squeaks by, but badly damaged
Jan. 3: John Boehner narrowly won re-election as Speaker of the House, but his brand is badly damaged as the 113th Congress is sworn in. MSNBC’s Richard Wolffe joins Ed Schultz to talk about the next big battle in this Ed Show video.

    • Here is the video link where Rachel Maddow basically made the “I told you so point” to Harry Reid about what he did on filibuster reform over the Hagel nomination which I was very glad to see! Maddow criticized Reid’s bad judgment about filibuster reform and the “deal” that he made with Mitch McConnell starting at about 05:19 into this video of her MSNBC show. She asked at about 06:10 into the video about what Reid did regarding filibuster reform and the Hagel nomination: “How’s that working out now?” and “How’s that gentleman’s agreement going?” Starting at about 09:34 into the video, Andrea Mitchell talked about how serious the consequences of this are (Harry Reid deserves MUCH of the blame for the Hagel nomination being filibustered for NOT implementing the talking filibuster as he promised when he had the chance to):

Senate GOP sets historic standard of obstruction
Feb. 14: Andrea Mitchell, NBC chief foreign affairs correspondent and host of “Andrea Mitchell Reports” on MSNBC, talks with Rachel Maddow about the shocking first-ever-in-history filibustering of a Cabinet nominee by Senate Republicans of President Obama’s choice for Secretary of Defense, former Republican Senator Chuck Hagel.

    • From about 1:33 to 1:40 into this video, Ed Schultz (who is very liberal) on his MSNBC show complained that there could have been meaningful filibuster reform in this Congress but Harry Reid caved which I AGREE with! I think we need the talking filibuster so the entire country can watch it on BOTH sides and decide if they think it is justified or unjustified:

Frontline’s Martin Smith and economist David Cay Johnston join Ed Schultz to discuss Warren’s impact on financial regulation.

  4. Here is tangible documentation to credibly prove my point 4 above that Harry Reid helped cause Obama to break his promise to close Guantanamo (The issue of Guantanamo itself is not so much my main point, it is what Reid did to Obama to stop him from keeping a campaign promise that is my main point. Why would Reid do that to Obama, his President?):

What do you think? Is he going to keep his word? He says it again and again…

DAFNA LINZER, SENIOR REPORTER, PRO PUBLICA: I think that’s exactly what happened. You know, the president came in, he thought this is going to be a bipartisan issue, he thought he was going to have all this congressional support. It melted immediately. Even Harry Reid, you know, who is the Senate majority leader, who’s a Democrat, voted against funding for the president right out of the gate in 2009 to move people back from Guantanamo to hold them in U.S. prisons. Just said no…”

  5. Here is tangible documentation to credibly prove my point 5 that Harry Reid was inconsistent and looked like he had something to hide on the Sen. Robert Menendez ethics issue:

    http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/1301/31/sitroom.01.html

    THE SITUATION ROOM

    Aired January 31, 2013 – 16:00 ET

JIM ACOSTA, CNN NATIONAL POLITICAL CORRESPONDENT: “On Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid cautioned reporters to be wary of the Menendez story because of the source of where these allegations came from.

However, that was before a Menendez spokesperson confirmed late last night that the New Jersey senator had reimbursed Florida eye doctor, Salomon Melgen, $58,000 for those charter flights down to the Dominican Republic back in 2010. I asked Senator Reid if he knew about those reimbursements and here’s what he had to say.

    (BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

SEN. HARRY REID (D-NV), MAJORITY LEADER: First of all, Bob Menendez is my friend. He’s an outstanding senator. He’s now the new chair of the Foreign Relations Committee. Any questions in this regard directing him, I don’t know anything about it.

    (END VIDEO CLIP)

ACOSTA: And so, that’s all he had to say there. CNN has learned, though, that Senator Reid was aware of those reimbursements when he made that statement to reporters on Tuesday…”

  6. The link for my point 6 where “Rush Limbaugh very cleverly outsmarted Harry Reid, made him look like an idiot, and claimed a political victory over him” is already in the post.

All Harry Reid had to do was take up a collection of the 40+ Senators who signed the letter that Rush auctioned off (most sitting Senators have a lot of money so Reid probably could have easily raised several millions of dollars to make what Rush raised look like a small amount), give that money to charity, give Rush a token “thanks” for what he did, and then say something like “now let’s get back to the business of your “Phony Soldiers” comment which was a disgraceful thing to say about our troops!”

If I could easily see that, then Reid (or anyone advising him or who had access to him) should have also seen it. Reid going from rebuking Rush Limbaugh on the Senate floor for calling our troops “Phony Soldiers” to praising Rush on the Senate floor after being manipulated by him made Reid look like a fool and an idiot in my opinion! Very unfortunately, I think that the title of Rush’s article “Senator Reid: You Win, Rush” in the post is true!

I think that Harry Reid’s VERY huge “sin” where he tried to Rig the 2008 Democratic Presidential Primary in Obama’s Favor had to be exposed so hopefully this kind of corruption will NEVER happen again with insiders in either party. I realize it is one thing for a politician to take an extra cookie or two from the cookie jar BUT I think it is an entirely different thing when ANY politician (especially the Senate Majority Leader) tries to steal the entire cookie jar!

Because of Reid’s blatant corruption, I tried to help Sharron Angle’s campaign in 2010. While I disagreed with Angle on MANY issues, I knew that she would go nowhere further than the Senate and the price of only 1 Senate seat out of 100 in my opinion was worth it to expose what Reid did, punish him for it, and send a message to party leaders that there will be a price to pay if this ever happened again. Unfortunately Sharron Angle’s deputy campaign manager Jordan Gehrke refused to listen to me and did NOT accept my help when I told him that there was a 97%+ chance I could win the campaign for Angle while it was about 50/50 if he did not accept my help. However Angle’s supporters accepted my help and I did this 23 minute Podcast for them (we all hoped that Angle’s campaign would listen after hearing this but they did not):
